Arthur Melo wasn’t Liverpool’s main goal

DBasia.news – Finally Liverpool have chosen to bring in Arthur Melo on the last day of the transfer market this summer. But the Brazilian player wasn’t the main goal of the Reds.

As is known, Liverpool want to bring in a new midfielder before the transfer window closes. It could not be separated from the storm of injuries that attacked the Red Merseyside midfield.

Liverpool had been linked with a number of big names. Even so, it was Arthur Melo who was finally signed on loan from Juventus.

According to Calciomercato’s report, Juventus were first interested in another Juventus midfielder before Arthur. The figure in question is Denis Zakaria.

Unfortunately the negotiations to bring in Zakaria did not go smoothly. With time running out, Liverpool finally turned to Arthur.

Liverpool borrowed Arthur for a fee of around 4 million euros. A permanent purchase option is also included in the deal for 37.5 million euros.

Interestingly, Zakaria was then loaned to Chelsea by Juventus. The fee is around 3 million euros with a permanent purchase option as well as 28 million euros.

This fact invites questions as the costs incurred to propose to Arthur are in fact greater than bringing in Zakaria. So what made Liverpool’s negotiations unacceptable?
