DBasia.news – Atalanta lost 3-2 to Manchester United on Matchday 3 of Group F of the 2021-2022 Champions League, at Old Trafford Stadium, Thursday (21/10) am, WIB. As La Dea’s tactician, Gian Piero Gasperini prepared revenge in the second meeting.
Initially, Atalanta were two goals ahead through Mario Articleic (15′) and Merih Demiral (28′). However, Man United came back and scored three goals through Marcus Rashford (53′), Harry Maguire (75′), and Cristiano Ronaldo (81′).
Even though he lost, Gasperini still appreciated the appearance of his team. Atalanta have a chance of revenge on matchday 4, Wednesday (3/11). At that time, Atalanta will be the host.
“We performed with character. There were moments when we couldn’t attack, but we tried every opportunity. We weren’t sharp enough in finishing,” Gasperini said as reported by Sky Sports Italia.
“The second leg will be challenging. Because Man United are very dangerous when they get open space. However, we showed that we can speak in this group.”
“We will continue to learn. This is a top flight. You have to take lessons from the spirit of Man United.”
Gasperini is aware, the advantage against Man United before the long whistle is not a guarantee. Gasperini knows Man United often make comebacks.
“Manchester Unite’s comebacks and last-minute wins are commonplace at Old Trafford. I can’t count how much they did there. So that’s their character,” said the coach.
Now, Manchester United is at the top of the standings with six points. Meanwhile, Atalanta are in second place with four points.
