Back to England’s starting XI against Denmark, Bukayo Saka makes history

DBasia.news – Bukayo Saka returned to the starting XI when England defeated Denmark 2-1 in extra time in the semi-finals of Euro 2020 at Wembey, Thursday (8/7) with the 19 year old player making history.
Saka missed the Three Lions’ 4-0 win over Ukraine due to an injury in training, whereas previously he started against the Czech Republic in the final group game and against Germany in the top 16. When Saka was absent against Ukraine, his position was replaced by Jadon Sancho, who appeared impressive.
However, Sancho returned to the bench in the match against Denmark, as the only change in the composition of the players from the duel against Ukraine.
In the match against Denmark, Saka played until the 69th minute before the Arsenal player was replaced by Jack Grealish, who was also sent off in extra time and replaced by Kieran Tripper.
England manager Gareth Southgate surprisingly opted for the same back line as the quarter-finals, even though the team ended up conceding a goal for the first time this Euro 2020.
Jordan Pickford was in goal with Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, John Stones and Kyle Walker in front of him.
Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips remain in the defensive midfield positions, with Saka, Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount and Harry Kane completing the line-up.
There was a lot of backlash on social media highlighting Southgate’s decision, as Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Grealish and Phil Foden sat on the bench, although the last two players had chances to come on as substitutes.
Saka made history, becoming the youngest England player (19 years and 205 days) to start in a semi-final or final at a major tournament (European Championship and World Cup).
The winner for England, reaching the final of a major tournament for the first time in 55 years, was scored by Harry Kane in the 104th minute after curling the ball from the rebound from his penalty. The prize for a 12-fit kick was thanks to the contribution of Raheem Sterling, which was dropped by Joakim Maehle in the forbidden box.
In the final at Wembley, Monday (12/7) England will face Italy, who the day before got rid of Spain on penalties.
