Bale: Wales are desperate to go to the World Cup for the first time

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Captain Gareth Bale says Wales are desperate to qualify for their first World Cup finals appearance in 64 years.

Therefore, Bale believe that Wales will face a big game when they take on Ukraine in Sunday’s playoff at Cardiff City Stadium.

“It’s a big game. I don’t think there’s anything to hide. We’ve only played in one World Cup,” Bale said.

Wales’ only appearance at the World Cup finals was in Sweden in 1958, when they lost to Brazil in the quarter-finals.

“It’s a big game. It’s hard to say whether it’s a ‘big’ game. Obviously, we played in the semifinals of the European Championship in 2016,” said the former Real Madrid player.

“So this is a stepping stone that we all want to take to play at the greatest level. And yes, we have a big game tomorrow that we really want to win and achieve our goals.”

A largely neutral audience appears to be in favor of Ukraine after Russia’s invasion of their country, which Moscow calls a “special military operation.”

When asked how it felt to face Ukraine in these circumstances, Bale said the most important thing was that Wales would be “the most popular team in the stadium.”

“Everyone in the world feels for Ukraine. It’s a sport that brings everyone together. We understand what it will do for Ukraine, but we want to reach the World Cup,” Bale said.

“It doesn’t come from a terrible place. It comes from our country and our hearts the way we want to give to our own fans.”

The world football tournament in Qatar will be held from November 21 to December 18.
