Barcelona are still targeting players in the transfer market this winter

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Barcelona continues to look for players to improve the quality of their squad while trained by the legend, Xavi Hernandez. In January (winter transfer market) Barca have signed Ferran Torres from Manchester City.

Ahead of the deadline for the winter transfer window, Barca has been linked with Ajax Amsterdam left-back, Nicolas Tagliafico, who has been desperate to join Barca and pushed Ajax to make the transfer.

Torres and Tagliafico could be Barca’s new signings for the remainder of the 2021-2022 season, but Barcelona are also preparing the squad for next season. There are currently two names linked with Barca and both of them play at Chelsea.

They are two Chelsea defenders: Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen. Azpilicueta and Christensen’s contracts will expire in June 2022 and so far Chelsea have not extended their contracts.

In that situation if Chelsea are unable to convince them to sign a new contract, Azpilicueta and Christensen can negotiate with other teams and leave for free at the end of the season (free agents). Chelsea could also sell them this January and they are unlikely to do so.

Barca’s interest in Azpilicueta and Christensen was confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, a European football transfer expert.

“Barcelona are working on signing Cesar Azpilicueta as a free agent in June. The conversation is on going, the contract would be given until 2024 with an option to extend,” said Romano.

“Chelsea are still waiting for Cesar to communicate about his decision. Barca are also interested in Andreas Christensen,” added Romano.

Azpilicueta (32 years old) has been with Chelsea since 2012 and is currently the team captain. With a Spanish passport, the former Osasuna and Olympique Marseille player can be persuaded by Barcelona to return to Spain.

While Christensen is younger at the age of 25 years and is Danish. Christensen is an experienced and quality defender who could be plotted as Gerard Pique’s successor at Barcelona.
