Barcelona Considered Weak When Facing Corner Kicks
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Barcelona’s weaknesses began to be revealed ahead of the mid-2020-2021 LaLiga. One that is quite crucial is that Barca have difficulty dealing with corner kicks.
Barcelona only played 2-2 against Valencia in the Week 14 LaLiga 2020-2021 match, at Camp Nou, Saturday (19/12). In fact, Barca needs three points to penetrate the top flight.
El Barca conceded through Mouctar Diakhaby’s goal in the 29th minute. The goal came from a corner kick. Diakhaby grabs the ball with a header.
After this goal, Barcelona indeed turned superior through the actions of Lionel Messi and Ronald Araujo. However, Maxi Gomez’s goal broke Barca’s victory.
One thing that is interesting to note is Barcelona’s ability to deal with corner kicks. Because, when they lost 2-1 against Cadiz, Barca also conceded through a corner kick scheme. Statistical records show, Barca conceded three goals in the last five goals from corners.
“We are aware of how many players with high posture to keep the opponent’s tall players. Diakhaby is alone and we defend against him. We have to be above the players,” said Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman, as reported by Marca.
One of the contributing factors is that Barcelona lost Gerard Pique due to injury. Usually, Pique is a player who does aerial duels with opposing players.
Koeman felt that Barca should have handled set pieces better. “We were too small and had problems with set pieces,” explained the tactician.
Now, Barcelona is in fifth place in the standings with 21 points from 13 matches. The leader of the standings, Atletico Madrid, collected 29 points from 12 matches.
