Barcelona in the Pep Guardiola Era is considered more resilient than Real Madrid

DBasia.news – Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes considers Barcelona’s squad in the Pep Guardiola era to be more resilient than Real Madrid’s squad. The assessment was given based on Scholes’ personal experience who had faced the Blaugrana squad under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola and Real Madrid.

Guardiola handled Barcelona from 2008 to 2012. Under his tutelage, the Catalan club dominated Europe with its beautiful game.

Scholes has felt their strength firsthand. While with Manchester United they were defeated twice from Guardiola’s Barcelona in the Champions League final match precisely in 2009 and 2011.

“You see how good Guardiola’s Barcelona is. They have Andres Iniesta, Xavi, Sergio Busquets, Lionel Messi and Henry,” Scholes told A Goal in One Podcast.

“At center back there were Gerard Pique and Carlos Puyol. They are undoubtedly the best team I have ever faced and one of the best teams ever.”

While Los Galacticos Madrid in the early 2000s recognized by Scholes as one of the best teams as they were strengthened by many star players. But he felt he was still able to compensate even though Manchester United had defeated the quarter-finals of the 2002-2003 Champions League.

“They have Ronaldo Nazario, Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo, Redondo, Raul, Roberto Carlos, Hierro, Iker Casillas, the team were truly extraordinary. We are fine against them but Barcelona are ahead of the great Real Madrid team, “he added.

Scholes considers the presence of the two teams as an obstacle to Manchester United to win the Champions League trophy. The Red Devils came out as champions in the European elite club competition three times

Scholes felt Manchester United at that time also had a strong team. This was proven by their dominance in the Premier League.

“We were really unlucky. In another era we might have won four, five or six Champions League titles,” he concluded.
