Barcelona Officially Get Free Christensen

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Barcelona have officially announced the signing of Andreas Christensen on a free transfer, with the Danish defender allowed to move to Camp Nou after breaking up with Chelsea.

The 26-year-old centre-back has been linked with a move to Barcelona since it was revealed he will not sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

The protracted saga, complicated by ongoing financial troubles at Barca, has finally come to an end.

Without a transfer fee, Barcelona could award Christensen a lucrative four-year contract until the summer of 2026.

That is the same length of contract as the one signed by Franck Kessie, who was confirmed as a new Barceloa player on the same day. Both players have release clauses of €500 million, while Christensen’s unveiling will take place on Thursday (7/7) – the day after the midfielder was signed from Milan.

There are still problems with signing up for new players, but Barcelona say they have enough room in their salary cap to get new faces and be officially confirmed.

Christensen, who has 56 caps for Denmark, will add useful experience to Barcelona’s back line.

With Gerard Pique nearing the end of his career, Christensen is poised to be placed alongside Ronald Araujo and Eric Garcia.

Christensen, who spent two seasons on loan at Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach between 2015 and 2017, made 93 Premier League appearances during his time at Chelsea.

Christensen also plays in continental competition regularly and arrives at Camp Nou with medals for the Champions League, Europa League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
