Barcelona Players said their farewell to Lionel Messi
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Lionel Messi officially parted ways with Barcelona. It’s hard to believe, but it really did happen.
Barcelona announced the failure to extend Messi’s contract on Thursday (5/8). A day later, Joan Laporta as club president explained the facts regarding this decision.
LaLiga regulations related to the salary burden limit were the main reason Barcelona failed to keep Messi. The Blaugrana were unable to comply with these rules more than a week before the inaugural match began.
Barcelona also refused an injection of fresh funds from LaLiga worth 280 million euros. Laporta believes the move will put the club’s future in jeopardy.
“LaLiga wants to impose a contract on us from the investment group that will mortgage the Club. I will not pawn the Club for 50 years from now just to be able to register the best player in history because Barca is above all else,” said Laporta.
The Barcelona squad seems to have a hard time accepting the fact that Messi is no longer their teammate. A number of senior players reportedly came to La Pulga’s residence to accompany his departure.
The Barcelona players then also gave a special message to Messi through his personal social media account. The following are messages from El Barca players:
Sergio Busquets: “I can only thank you for what you have done for the club and especially for me. You came as a child and you are the best player in history who has made this club grow to the level it deserves and made history individually and collectively.”
Ansu Fati: “Every player at La Masia dreams of playing with you and I feel lucky to have fulfilled that dream. I want to thank you for these two years and for your affectionate attitude towards me and for everything I have learned.
Gerard Pique: “In my first season after returning to FC Barcelona, we won the treble and you became the best player of all time. From Rosario to touching the skies of Rome, that’s where the story of legend begins and what a wonderful time we had!”
Riqui Puig: “I have been able to fulfill the dream of every child who has a passion for football to be able to share jerseys and equipment with the best player in the world. Living, learning and competing with him is the best thing that has happened to me in the last two years. Thank you Leo, We will miss you very much.”
Sergi Roberto: “Thank you for all the moments that have kept me and all the Barcelona fans alive, for all the joy you have given us, all the goals you have scored, all the titles we have celebrated, to take this club to the top, to make so many people dream of your football especially for doing it in this jersey.”
Antoine Griezmann: “Thank you for everything you’ve done at Barcelona! For the city, for the club, you’ve changed everything! I’m sure it’s not goodbye but see you later and your path will meet again with FC Barcelona.”
Miralem Pjanic: “Leo, nice to meet you. You are a special person, I wish you all the best with your family in the future.”
Jordi Alba: “It’s an honor to share these 9 seasons together. The wonderful experiences we have enjoyed and many moments of difficulty we have overcome. I was lucky enough to see your first goal in 2005 against Albacete live in Camp Nou and I never thought that one day we would have a relationship that at just a glance, we understood each other.”
Philippe Coutinho: “Thank you so much Lionel Messi for everything. It was a great honor to have met you and played with you. I am very grateful for the way you have treated me and my family over the years.”
