Barcelona purchases a New Attacker to Replace Griezmann, Arsene Wenger is not surprised

DBasia.news – Former Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger has no doubts regarding the quality of Antoine Griezmann as one of the best strikers in the world today. But he claimed not to be surprised that the French player would be sold by Barcelona next summer.

Griezmann was brought in by Barcelona from Atletico Madrid earlier this season with a transfer fee of 120 million euros. He is expected to fill the role of Neymar to build a sharp front-line trio with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

Unfortunately that has not been realized until now. Griezmann seems to still find difficulty to adapt to Barcelona’s playing style.

“I still think Griezmann will at some stage start to score goals. He doesn’t look fully adapted but maybe after the lockdown he will be fresher as he is a good goal scorer,” Wenger said as quoted by BeIN Sports.

“But I’m sure they (Barcelona) will purchase other strikers too.”

Griezmann has only scored 14 goals in 37 appearances. These records are the same as those recorded by Suarez.

The difference, Suarez played 14 fewer games than Griezmann due to injury. While Messi became Barcelona’s top scorer with a collection of 24 goals.

Griezmann’s performance did not satisfy Barcelona’s management. A number of names such as Lautaro Martinez and Neymar are rumored to be the main target in the upcoming transfer market.

In order to realize this, Barcelona must prepare exorbitant funds. Therefore selling Griezmann is the best option to gain capital to purchase new attackers.

“They can add another striker because it is true that Suarez and Messi are the main contributors and they might need someone else who can score goals,” he concluded.
