Barcelona Targeting Caglar Soyuncu
By db-admin
DBasia.news – FC Barcelona are still looking for a central defender to strengthen the team next season. The defender must be able to build attacks from behind in addition to being able to defend.
Currently Quique Setien’s team has four center-backs: Samuel Umtiti, Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet, and Ronald Araujo. The name mentioned first is reportedly going to be sold by Barcelona due to frequent injuries. Besides, Umtiti was also unable to compete with Lenglet.
Pique, Lenglet, and Araujo’s positions are safe for now. Meanwhile, Jean Clair Todibo, who is on loan at Schalke, reportedly will also be sold by Barca. This is because the 20-year-old defender received a lot of interests from European clubs.
No doubt Umtiti and Todibo are reportedly on the Barcelona selling list. The vacant space in the position of Barca’s central defender – according to Sport-English – will be replaced by Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu. The 24 year old defender is said to be ideal for Barca.
Besides being relatively young, Soyuncu is also a defender who can build attacks from behind. Soyuncu has frequently decided to dribble the ball from behind to break through the opponent’s midfield, similar to Pique when he was younger than he is today.
Barcelona reportedly prepared 40 million euros to bring Caglar Soyuncu from Leicester. Soyuncu is also not a new target for Barcelona because according to his agent, Mustafa Dogru, Barca has long been monitoring his client.
“This summer allows him (Soyuncu) to play at Barcelona. Barca want to sign him before he plays with Altinordu. We have spoken to them and they even made an offer,” said Dogru.
Caglar Soyuncu has played 34 times this season in the Premier League with one goal notched. He has also made 111 successful hull passes to his teammates with an average of 68.21 passes per match. Soyuncu has also won 202 ball-fighting duels.
If Barcelona have difficulty bringing him from Leicester then they have another alternative, Eric Garcia who refuses the offer of a contract extension from Manchester City.
