DBasia.news – Barcelona will immediately released Miralem Pjanic and Samuel Umtiti in the transfer market this summer. Barcelona is working on the transfer of the two players.
Barcelona is facing financial problems and is trying to overhaul. They intend to release several players in order to cut expenses, especially the burden of player salaries.
Miralem Pjanic and Samuel Umtiti are players on Barcelona’s selling list. Last season, both were rarely played by Ronald Koeman.
In the 2020/2021 season, Umtiti only appeared 16 times in all competitions with Barcelona. While Pjanic played for 30 times and did not contribute goals or assists at all.
“Most of all we respect our players. We do this by talking to them honestly, clearly, and straightforwardly,” said Barcelona president Joan Laporta as reported by Football Espana.
“They are two players who were less than outstanding last season but have done well in this pre-season.”
Barcelona sporting director Mateu Alemany said the same thing. He confirmed that the club was negotiating with the agents of each player regarding a possible transfer.
“All Barcelona players know their respective situations. These two players are prestigious and know the coach’s opinion and the possibilities they can face this season,” said Alemany.
“With all due respect, and together with their agents, we discussed the possibility of letting them go. They are the ones who are interested because they want guaranteed play wherever they go,” he stated.
Miralem Pjanic joined Barcelona last summer in a swap deal involving Arthur Melo. Meanwhile, Samuel Umtiti was recruited by Barcelona from Lyon in the summer of 2016.
