Barcelona Will Elect A New President in January 2021
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Barcelona will elect a new president on January 24, 2021. This means that the election will be held 88 days after Josep Maria Bartomeu resigned from the position of president of the Blaugrana. Although it has not been officially announced, a close source quoted from ESPN, Friday (13/11), said that the election time will take place on that date.
The election watchdog committee actually asked the club to hold elections 90 days after Bartomeu stepped down. However, he finally agreed on January 24 after several meetings. Carles Tusquets interim president said his club would still buy players in January 2021, even though no president had yet been elected.
This condition is not the first time. During the 2015 election, Barcelona signed Arda Turan, after which coach Luis Enrique became interested in buying him. The agreement is made by the management committee.
Coach Ronald Koeman is likely to buy two players, namely Manchester City defender Eric Garcia and Lyon striker Memphis Depay. The two players will expire their contracts next summer.
However, Tusquets insisted there must be a sale of players first, before buying players, because the club’s financial condition is currently in crisis.
Club representatives will coordinate with local authorities regarding the technical selection. The club doesn’t want a large mass concentration to avoid the spread of Covid-19.
Currently, according to Marca’s report, there are seven candidates who have declared their run as presidential candidates. They, namely Xavi Vilajoana, Victor Font, Toni Freixa, Jordi Farre, Agusti Benedito, Pere Riera, Lluis Fernandez Ala. It is hoped that there will be additional new candidates ahead of the election.
