Behind Mo Salah’s Contract Extension

DBasia.news – Mohamed Salah has signed a new contract. And he won’t be following in the footsteps of Divock Origi and Sadio Mane leaving Liverpool.

The player who has been at Liverpool since 2017 has signed a new contract until 2023 (a 3 year contract). Mo Salah is currently 30 years old and that means he will be 33 when his contract expires.

“Mo Salah’s best performance has not been fully seen.” That’s what Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said about Mo Salah. The former Chelsea, Fiorentina and AS Roma player is also happy to be staying with Liverpool.

“I feel great and (I’m) excited to win trophies with the club. It’s a happy day for everyone,” Mo explained.

“It will take a bit of time, I think, to update, but now it’s all done so we just need to focus on what’s next.”

“I think you can see in the last five or six years the team is always (up). Last season we almost won four, but unfortunately in the last week of the season we lost two trophies.

“I think we are in a good position to fight for everything. We also have new players. We just need to keep working hard, have a good vision, be positive and do everything again.”

The Role of Liverpool’s Legend

Liverpool legend mid-1980-1986, Ian Rush, had a behind-the-scenes role regarding Mo Salah’s contract extension. The man from Wales is a close friend of Mo Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, and Rush managed to convince Mo Salah through Abbas to sign a new contract.

“I enjoyed a few meals with Ramy in Dubai where he lives, in France, London and Liverpool,” Rush said.

“Every time the conversation usually turns to Mo and his future. I’ve always insisted that Mo can become a true Liverpool legend if he stays for another three years and maintains his incredible standards.”

“There have been great players in the past. In recent years there were Luis Suarez, Fernando Torres and Sadio Mane but they didn’t last long enough to become true legends.”

“You have to keep performing for 10 years at the highest level. Mo can now achieve that,” said Rush.

Rush even backed Mo Salah to break his record at Liverpool.

“I kept telling him if he stayed he could break my record. I also said that the grass on the other side is not always greener. I’m so happy that I’m back in Liverpool where I’m loved.”

“Everyone at Liverpool including the fans loves him. It’s like a new player. I’m really happy. Hopefully, in my role as a Liverpool ambassador, I have helped in some ways. Honestly I would love it if he was a record breaker at Liverpool.” he concluded.
