Bernd Leno Confirms Still Arsenal’s Number One Goalkeeper

DBasia.news – Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno impressed when his team won on penalties against Liverpool in the last 16 of the League Cup at Anfield.
Leno went without a goal in normal time as a savior on penalties when he stopped Harry Wilson’s penalty. Arsenal won 5-4 over Liverpool. The 28-year-old goalkeeper was impressive in that match.
Liverpool, which rotated the squad and fielded many young players, released 16 attempted kicks, seven shots on target, with 57 percent of the ball. The seven kicks were all pushed over by Leno.
Seven times warded off the plus two opportunities from the penalty box. According to Squawka for the first time Arsenal goalkeeper has recorded clean sheets at Anfield in all competitions since 2012. That proves that Leno is still Arsenal’s number one goalkeeper.
As is known, his position was lost when Leno was injured and Emiliano Martinez appeared impressive. The public questioned Arsenal when selling Martinez to Aston Villa this summer, but the doubts were gone by seeing Leno’s performance.
“It was a very difficult match. We made some changes, you can see our philosophy and our intention to win this match,” Leno told Sky Sports.
“This is an opportunity to win trophies again, that’s our target. Of course, it’s good for a goalkeeper to make a penalty save and see some laughing faces after the game. I prefer to win games without penalties, the main thing is we won the game.”
“It’s not easy to come into the same place with a big disappointment from Monday. We analyzed the game and the manager found the right words to lift us.”
“The club always gives me the feeling that I am number one, I am number one and will be number one. My job is to prove it every week and I feel I have done it tonight,” said Leno.
Some time ago Arsenal did indeed lose 1-3 to Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League. Apart from showing Leno’s strength, another unique fact is that Mikel Arteta’s magic in the domestic tournament continues: he has never lost.
