Boris Johnson Was Urged to Make July 12 a Holiday If England Win

DBasia.news – The British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has received demands to make July 12th an emergency bank holiday if the England national team wins at Euro 2020. Reportedly, the Prime Minister is considering the decision.

The England national team is just one step away from the first European Cup title in history. England will challenge Italy at Wembley on Sunday (11/7) local time.

Public calls for a day off on Monday (12/7) also began to increase. So far, there have been at least 100,000 signatures on a petition supporting the holiday.

“Sundays at 8 p.m. are a tough time for families to plan events together. Knowing we have an extra day off the next day would be very helpful,” the petition reads.

“Furthermore, historic victories must be celebrated. The winning team is expected to carry the trophy and the holidays would be the perfect time to do that.”

“Besides, the British will certainly want to continue to enjoy winning. That will give the retail and leisure industry a much-needed opportunity to make up for lost revenue.”

Boris Johnson has also heard about demands to make Monday (12/7) a holiday. The Prime Minister responded positively.

“It was a tempting choice. Let’s see what happens,” said Boris when visiting the center of energy company Bulb, in London.

The holiday signal will be given a boost after the prime minister’s spokesman gave the code.

“I don’t want to get ahead of the result on Sunday. Obviously we want England to win the final. Then, we will set a plan in time. We hope England win and then we will continue with the plan.”
