DBasia.news –  The Amex Stadium, home to the Brighton & Hove Albion headquarters, was transformed into a COVID-19 drive-through test center to assist the National Health Agency (NHS) during the corona virus pandemic, said the Premier League club general as quoted by Reuters, Monday.

English football has been suspended since March 13 due to the corona virus that has infected around 2.31 million people worldwide and claimed 158,000 lives.

Several Premier League clubs are competing to help NHS workers in the UK where around 15,000 people have died from this flu-like virus.

“The Amex Stadium will be the largest testing site on the south coast and will be used for self-testing and testing assistance,” explained Brighton Chief Executive, Paul Barber.

The club stated that the initiative was part of an effort by the British government to increase testing for thousands of NHS staff and other key workers in the fight against the spread of the corona virus.

“The testing center is scheduled to examine about 50 NHS frontline workers last Saturday afternoon and they will receive their test results within 48 hours,” Barber continued. “In the next few days this site should reach a maximum capacity of 1,000 tests in one day.”

Tottenham Hotspur also installed medical equipment in its new stadium to operate COVID-19 drive-through testing and treat NHS staff and their families.

Manchester United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chelsea are other clubs actively involved in helping NHS staff.

The Premier League football players has also launched a fundraiser for the NHS.
