Cagliari 1-3 Inter Milan: Nicolo Barella Scored to His Former Club’s goal

DBasia.news – Inter Milan won full points when they traveled to Cagliari headquarters in the continued Italian League this Sunday, December 13, 2020. Being left behind in the first half, the Nerazzurri managed to change things to win 3-1

Inter had two good chances at the start of the match on the counter-attack, but goalkeeper, Alessio Cragno was able to keep out Romelu Lukaku and Christian Eriksen’s efforts. Alessandro Bastoni also fired over from close range, before Cragno was able to defuse Lukaku’s shot.

Even though they were beaten repeatedly, it was Cagliari who broke the deadlock through their first clean chance in the 42nd minute. Riccardo Sottil’s early strike did not endanger Inter’d goal, but he then grabbed a bouncing ball to unleash a left-footed volley kick from a tight angle that goalkeeper Samir Handanovic couldn’t stop.

Inter continued to waste opportunities. Ivan Perisic’s shot went high against the goal, but Leonardo Pavoletti could have put Cagliari 2-0 up when his shot went wide after receiving Gabriele Zappa’s bait.

Inter coach, Antonio Conte made a number of changes, but the situation has not changed. Cragno was again able to ward off Ashley Young’s strike and Stefano Sensi’s strike went wide.

Inter was only able to equalize in the 77th minute. From Sensi’s deflected strike that resulted in a corner, the ball was then struck by Cragno before landing on to Barella who fired a right-footed volley kick. Barella did not celebrate the goal as a token of respect for his former club.

Achraf Hakimi’s substitute, Danilo D’Ambrosio, gave Inter the lead. He headed a corner kick into the host’s goal.

As Cagliari looked to increase the intensity of the attack with Cragno helping out in a corner situation, Inter took advantage of the counter-attack. Lukaku sprinted past the goalkeeper and easily found his way into the empty net in the 94th minute.

An additional three points has boosted the Nerazzurri to second place with a collection of 24 points to stick to AC Milan who are at the top with 26 points. Meanwhile, Cagliari are in 12th place with 12 points.
