DBasia.news –  Champions League defending victor, Liverpool, fell headfirst at San Paolo, Napoli headquarters, in the first match of the Champions League group F.

The Reds who held the status as defending champions are certainly favored in this match, although undergoing an away match, many predicted that they would go home with three points. Unfortunately, the opposite happened, they were defeated by a score of 2-0 through goals scored by Dries Mertens and Fernando Llorente.

Although managing to win, Carlo Ancelotti as Napoli manager chose to remain humble, even the man who had coached Real Madrid was still convinced that Liverpool still have the opportunity to retain the Champions League title this season.

“After the match I said to Jurgen Klopp: ‘Don’t worry, if you lose in Napoli, you will end the season by winning the Champions League!’ Ancelotti joked as reported by Liverpool Echo.

“I also want to thank Klopp who thinks that Napoli can win this competition, but there is still a long way to go. At the moment we must first focus on getting away from the group phase,” he added.

Napoli always seem to succeed in becoming a team that complicates the Reds, in the Champions League group phase last season, Mohamed Salah and mates were also defeated by a score of 1-0 at the first meeting. Finally, in the preseason match, I Partenopei managed to win a landslide victory 3-0.

Closing the conversation, Ancelotti was satisfied with the performance displayed by his foster children in this match.

“We did everything very well. When Liverpool controlled the match, the defenders were solid and then managed to get the opportunities they received. The match took place in a balanced manner, I also rate them as the best team in Europe,” he explained.
