Carlo Ancelotti’s determination to keep Everton on their winning track
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Everton boss, Carlo Ancelotti admitted that he never expected his team to be ranked second in the Premier League standings and now hopes the Toffees can end the competition well.
A 1-0 win over Sheffield United has lifted the Merseyside side to second, only two points behind Liverpool who have chosen a game in hand.
Everton have always collected points from their last five matches and this record has managed to propel the team on their winning track.
“We played patiently,” stated the Italian tactician after his team defeated Sheffield United.
“We were always competitive throughout the game. Defended well and always tried to create opportunities to score goals.”
“Every game is challenging, complicated. Sheffield United are a good team, we are happy to be in second place. We never predicted this before but that’s the story and we want to stay here.”
“We have a good squad even though there are some important players out. When they come back we can enjoy a good season and we haven’t thought about the January transfer market.”
“We are very satisfied with the situation of the team in the standings, but do not have much time to think about it. The next game will come in two days, we have to keep trying.”
Everton’s winning goal was created by Gylfi Sigurdsson, in the 80th minute which sealed the three points for the visitors.
Placed in a more defensive position, Sigurdsson admitted he was surprised to score.
“The coach gave me a more defensive role, so I’m not sure what I was doing in the box when the goal came,” he stated.
“We needed three points, we know playing here is never easy. I think Sheffield United have been unlucky so far, because they have lost a lot by just one goal difference. They are not a bad team.”
“It’s still in its early days, change can happen quickly in the Premier League. We started the competition well. Eliminated a number of points but the team managed to rise. Hopefully this will continue,” he added.
