Charlie Nicholas Fears David Luiz Becomes Arsenal’s Weakness Against Liverpool

DBasia.news –  Liverpool will host Arsenal at Anfield in Week three of the Premier League on Saturday (8/24) evening Western Indonesian Time. Charlie Nicholas, an Arsenal legend, is worried about the Gunners backline.

Luiz, 32, was recruited by Arsenal from Chelsea as a replacement for Laurent Koscielny. Luiz finished the big Arsenal spending spells that had been recruited: Dani Ceballos, Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba, Nicolas Pepe, and Kieran Tierney.

Nicholas, a former Arsenal player from mid-1983-1988, was originally pleased with the start of Unai Emery’s two-game Arsenal winning streak in the Premier League. But at Anfield, Arsenal’s defense will be greatly tested by Liverpool’s deadly trident: Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino.

“I am hesitant to at least say. So far their start is good, Arsenal won the first two games for the first time since 2010, so this tells you exactly how they usually start the season,” Nicholas told Sporting Life.

“The team will obviously think positively ahead of the game (against Liverpool), but the fragility in the defense is still there and against Liverpool who rely on the trident up front, they will have the speed and provide a threat that must be faced.”

“On the other hand, the match will be an opportunity to see Arsenal related to the chance of getting into the top four and the biggest question is whether David Luiz will be exploited later or not (by the Liverpool front line).”

“This prefix is crucial, especially at Anfield, because Arsenal have to go through the first 20-25 minutes without conceding. This is the first phase and Arsenal must survive in it,” added Nicholas.

Furthermore, according to Nicholas, Arsenal’s backline must be protected by two strong anchors (pivots) to provide protection. If the backline is good, then the front line must play efficiently.

“He (Emery) might decide to stay and block the ball, try and stop Liverpool playing, try to continue to remain compact because of the opponent’s game,” added Nicholas.

“I prefer that they play offensively more and I will play four defenders with Mateo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira in front of him, Dani Ceballos in front of them and a front line containing Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe and Alexandre Lacazette.”

“They have to get the ball and make things happen. If you go to the Liverpool headquarters, then they don’t play well on the front lines and you can show weakness,” he explained.
