Chelsea Began to Improve Mental Play
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Chelsea get a moment of mental awakening after overthrowing Liverpool. The Blues are trying to improve their mental aspects lately.
Chelsea won 2-0 over Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday (3/4/2020), in the fifth round of FA Cup. Performed very well, Chelsea made their goals from Willian and Ross Barkley.
Despite losing the ball possession, 42% -58%, Chelsea are more threatening. Whoscored noted The Blues had 17 shots with seven on target and one hit the crossbar. While Liverpool had 14 trials in which only five on target.
Victory over Liverpool is a momentum for Chelsea to get out of inconsistency. In the last eight games, these West London squad have only won twice, with three draws and three defeats.
Those not-okay statistics forced Frank Lampard to hold a meeting with the team. He wants to unite his squad in order to approach the top teams.
“I think we need to do a meeting about where we are going, and to realize what we need to do to achieve it. We are not Chelsea from the past, with Hazard, Costa and Terry, and Drogba. We are in a different situation,” he said on the club’s official website.
“We have young players, some older players, but we try to close our distance with the teams above. It’s important to know that we work hard every day at the training, we behave when going home, and think of how to work better as a team, we can’t do that jump,” Lampard added.
The issue that Lampard is highlighting is mental. Chelsea often have difficulties when in a depressed position.
“Our problem is in both penalty boxes and sometimes there is a mental factor there. Our problem in some parts of the match is when we have a bad moment and concede two goals like when against Bayern Munich,” he added.
“We are trying to deal with that, a mental problem. The players all agree, but beating Liverpool is not the end. We need to reap this experience and replicate it repeatedly,” said Lampard.
