DBasia.news – Two new Chelsea players, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, received contrasting fortunes on their non-competitive debut for the Blues. Chelsea were held to a draw at Brighton with a score of 1-1 in a trial match at the Amex Stadium, Saturday (29/8).
Chelsea’s goal was scored by Werner in the fourth minute. While Brighton was able to force a draw through Pascal Gross in the final minutes of the match.
Manager Frank Lampard played Werner and Ziyech as starters in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Lone striker Werner and Ziyech were placed on the right wing.
Werner, who wore the number 11 jersey, scored his first goal with Chelsea after grabbing a wild ball from Callum Hudson-Odoi’s header who received Ziyech’s cross.
Meanwhile, Ziyech, who wore the jersey number 22, had to receive medical assistance and was pulled out in the 54th minute after suffering an ankle injury. He was replaced by young midfielder, Conor Gallagher.
As reported by the Daily Express, Chelsea have not provided further information regarding the severity of the injury to the player who was brought in from Ajax for 37.5 million pounds.
“It’s great to have my first minute in the blue jersey. I can’t wait for the league to start,” Ziyech said on Instagram, without mentioning his injury.
Interestingly, this match became an open trial match with a maximum limit of 2,500 supporters.
Previously, EPL clubs [and other leagues] were forced to hold closed “restart” matches due to the corona virus pandemic after the competition was suspended for three months. As of now, the competition has been postponed from mid-March to mid-June.
Chelsea will meet Brighton again in the same place in their first match in the English Premier League 2020/21 season, September 14, local time.
