Chris Smalling’s fitness is concerning

By db-admin

DBasia.news – AS Roma is currently worried about the fitness condition of former Manchester United defender Chris Smalling as he has continued to be absent due to an injury.

Being one of their best players last season, Chris Smalling was finally purchased permanently by AS Roma last summer.

It was not easy to convince Manchester United to let go of the English defender, especially after Smalling was able to perform neatly during his loan spell with I Giallorossi.

Having created joy after finally being signed off at the start of the season, now Smalling’s situation has made Roma anxious. According to reports from Football Italia, the club from the capital is worried about the player’s physical condition as he often has to miss out due to injuries this season.

The player himself must be absent again this weekend when his team competed against Napoli in an important match to catch up to the top four. The party against Gennaro Gattuso’s team is also the 20th match where Smalling has been unable to appear this season alone.

The anxiety from Roma management is quite reasonable as this season Smalling has been struggling with several physical problems, such as muscle, knee injuries and even food poisoning.

Although Roma coach Paulo Fonseca had mentioned that his team would not require surgery on his knee, there was still no certainty about when the player would be sure to return to strengthen the team.

Spending around Rp. 257 billion to bring the player from Man United officially, Roma management certainly has the right to worry about the fate of its players.

With Smalling himself being 31 years old, it certainly won’t be easy for him to quickly overcome the injury problems he suffers.

Roma’s fear of course is that Smalling will find it difficult to escape injury problems during his contract with I Giallorossi. If that happens, the team from the capital will likely have to return to activity in the transfer market to bring in a new defender.
