Christian Pulisic Adapted Well as False Nine

DBasia.news – Chelsea secured a place in the last 16 of the Champions League in a classy way. In the five Champions League group H match against Juventus at Stamford Bridge, Wednesday (24/11), the Blues won 4-0.

Four Chelsea goals came from Trevoh Chalobah (25′), Reece James (55′), Callum Hudson-Odoi (58′) and Timo Werner (90+5′). The Blues won it with 55 per cent possession and made 21 shots (eight on target).

Chelsea also avenged the defeat in Turin and are currently overtaking Juventus in group H. Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea top the standings with 12 points, the same as Juventus but on goal difference.

One thing that was interesting about that match was Christian Pulisic’s play as a false nine. Slowly but surely, Pulisic found his rhythm again after missing the first two months due to an ankle injury.

The 23-year-old is happy to be recovering from injury and finding his playing momentum again. Especially after returning from injury, Pulisic adapted well in the false nine position to replace the injured Romelu Lukaku.

“It’s been a long few months (out with injury). It’s hard not to be able to play and do what I love and help my team,” Pulisic said.

“I’m happy to be back and happy to be back in the team. I would say, as far as fitness goes, I’m close to where I want to be but I can still improve and that comes with minutes.”

“I played it smart enough in the way I came back not too fast. It’s really good and I’m happy with how I feel at the moment. So far the role of a false nine, I think I can play in the right positions, a lot of attacking positions in this team.”

“I’m in a slightly different role. I don’t have the ball as much as usual or can use some of my strengths but I think it’s a position I can play in. I can create a lot of space for me, my team-mates and I love playing there. too,” he concluded.

Pulisic is also pleased that Chelsea, the reigning Champions League champions, can put in a good performance in the Champions League this season after losing to Juventus in Turin.

“It was a very strong performance. I’m very happy with the way we started the game. We just put a lot of pressure on them (Juventus),” Pulisic added.

“We made it very difficult for them and got the goal at the right time. It was a very strong performance and three important points.”
