CONCACAF U-20 2020 Postponed due to Corona Virus

DBasia.news – The young U-20 2020 CONCACAF tournament has been postponed due to the corona virus. Even though it was originally to become the U-20 World Cup Qualification in Indonesia.

CONCACAF U-20 was originally scheduled to be held in Honduras from June 20 to July 5. The delay was decided due to uncertainty amid the corona virus pandemic (COVID-19).

CONCACAF delivered their decision through their official website. “The health and well-being of everyone involved in sports is our first priority and we continue to monitor and follow the guidelines given by the government and public health authorities throughout the region,” CONCACAF wrote.

“Given the uncertainty that is going on regarding on when football will resume, we made the decision to suspend the CONCACAF U-20 Championship which is scheduled to take place in Honduras between June 20 and July 5,” the statement continued.

CONCACAF said it would continue to hold talks with member associations, including FIFA and other stakeholders to reschedule the competition.

Through the event, as many as four teams or semifinalists will represent the North American, Central and Caribbean regions at the 2021 U-20 World Cup in Indonesia.

The other four are Asia’s top four not including Indonesia, which automatically fills the final round with the host status. Asian representatives will be obtained through the Asian Cup u-19 2020, which is scheduled to be held in Uzbekistan October 14-31.

Four other teams came from Africa or passed the U-20 Africa Cup 2021. Four South American teams went through CONMEBOL U-20 2021, two teams came from Oceania through OFC U-19 2020. While the five other teams that appeared in Indonesia came from Europe through UEFA U-19 2020.

The OFC U-19 2020 has also been postponed. Originally scheduled to be held in Samoa in July, but it would possibly be only able to be held in January 2021.
