Conquering SPAL, Antonio Conte: Inter Milan Sends a Signal
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Inter Milan coach, Antonio Conte said he was delighted to see that his troops had sent a signal of consistency after successfully conquering SPAL with a striking score of 4-0, in the continued Italian Serie A.
One more negative result, SPAL will be relegated to Serie B next season. Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri are now close to six points with Juventus who are at the top of the Serie A standings, with this season’s campaign remaining five matches.
“The most important thing for us is to send a signal of our consistency, our confidence, our hunger and determination. Because matches like this on paper seem easy, but we know there are no easy matches,” he said after the match.
“SPAL is a difficult opponent and will continue to be so. We want to secure the Champions League spot, position ourselves back in second place and get closer to the team in front of us, even when they are far from us,” he continued.
“I think the signal sent by this team is mental strength. Even when we face the obstacles along the way and pay a high price for it,” stated Conte.
Conte stated that the opening goal came when four attackers widened in the SPAL defense then switched to their speed and found an unmanned Antonio Candreva in the right position. This scheme, according to him, was something he used to apply in the early days he practiced.
“This is a typical move from the 4-2-4 tactics that I used in Bari and Siena. It’s satisfying when you score with that type of goal, because you see the work starting to change,” he explained.
Concerning Christian Eriksen’s appearance which was unstable, Conte tolerated it. According to him, the playmaker is struggling to face a new life in Italy.
“Christian is training, he is trying to get into the mechanism of the team and the league here, which is more tactical than in England. He is a quality player, he is trying to improve the team, trying to be more aggressive when pressing, and this is what we ask of him.” said Conte.
“I am satisfied with him. He continues to practice, like other players. He is quite a reluctant player, who is struggling to face a new reality, a new type of football. He is a good person, he didn’t come with an arrogant attitude, but at the same time he must understand that reluctance is permissible off the pitch. But he must adapt and understand certain situations, “he added.
“Eriksen did not create problems. He wants to achieve important things with Inter,” explained Conte.
“Since the lockdown, we changed tactics to 3-5-2 to play between the lines with Eriksen, so the attackers also changed their movements. It might have been a coincidence. But I believe we are just a team with 18 different scorers, so we ran a little more “It’s riskier than before, but we were more unpredictable and pressed the players forward from the midfield to support the attack line,” concluded the former Chelsea and Juventus coach.
This week, Inter will continue their adventure in the rest of Serie A this season by visiting the Italian capital, where they will clash with Roma at the Olimpico Stadio.
