DBasia.news – Tottenham Hotspur will travel to Manchester United’s headquarters in the 2021-2022 Premier League. This game can be very emotional for Antonio Conte.
The duel of the two teams will take place at Old Trafford, Sunday (13/3) at 00.30 WIB. Manchester United and Tottenham are determined to win in order to secure a place in the top four.
While Conte also carries a personal mission. He must be motivated to prove his quality in front of Manchester United.
Conte’s name had indeed been included in the list of candidates for Manchester United manager candidates. It came as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s position was rocked by a string of poor results.
Conte even went as far as to change the principle of refusing to handle the team in the middle of the season in favor of Manchester United. But in the end, the Red Devils still kept Solskjaer.
Not long ago, Conte accepted an offer to coach Tottenham Hotspur. This decision is believed to reduce his disappointment with Manchester United.
Ironically, Manchester United kicked out Solskjaer shortly after Conte officially became Tottenham manager. Ralf Rangnick was then appointed interim manager.
Many news circulated that Manchester United officials did not appoint Conte at that time as he was considered unsuitable for a long-term project. The former Juventus coach is indeed known to be very ambitious and likes to demand management.
Conte was ultimately reluctant to respond to these rumors. He admitted that Tottenham was not an escape from his failure to handle Manchester United.
“When United decided to sack Solskjaer, I had signed a contract with Tottenham. Honestly, I was happy to do so as at that time I found a great situation,” Conte said at a press conference ahead of the match against Manchester United.
“I’m excited to work at a modern club with a fantastic stadium and training ground, with a huge task to try to build something important for the future.”
Conte also admitted that he did not hold a grudge against Manchester United. His biggest motivation in the match later is to bring Tottenham to win and secure fourth place.
“I’m very focused on Tottenham’s work, so I don’t read these (rumors). I really enjoy working with this club and trying to raise our level,” he added.
“I repeat, I enjoy doing it.”
