Cristiano Ronaldo Says He Is Not Happy with the Central Forward Position
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Throughout the 20 years of Cristiano Ronaldo’s professional career, there have been great successes, both from individual achievements to winning trophies with the club, with Manchester United (period one), Real Madrid and Juventus.
Ronaldo originally started his career as a winger but as he entered his old age, the Portuguese superstar has transformed into a center forward with world-class finishing skills.
His performance has dropped drastically now with Man United. At the age of 37, Ronaldo encountered difficulties in his second period with the Red Devils, because he had to adapt again to the way the team played and the Premier League clubs were no longer the same as they used to be.
Moreover, Ronaldo is currently really a center forward and is no longer in a wing position. Not many know it, but the Sporting Lisbon academy product actually doesn’t really like the position.
This was said by the Lazio coach who used to train Ronaldo at Juventus, Maurizio Sarri. When asked if Ronaldo had ever refused Sarri’s request to be a centre-forward, Sarri did not deny it.
“Cristiano scored more Serie A goals in his season with me than anyone else,” Sarri replied as quoted by Football-Italy.
“He’s ready to play centre-forward in some games when we have an emergency, but he doesn’t really like the idea of doing it on a regular basis.
“In that situation, you end up challenging the certainty that the player has. Ronaldo scores 35-40 goals per season starting from a wider position, so for him it’s an almost unreasonable request. That’s understandable for the way he plays.”
Together with Sarri, Ronaldo played in 46 competitive matches and scored 37 goals. In the 2019-2020 season, CR7 scored 31 goals from 33 Serie A matches and provided eight assists. It’s definitely different now when Ronaldo has only scored once in his last 10 games with United.
