DBasia.news – The incident of Christian Eriksen’s incident in Denmark’s match against Finland at the 2020 European Cup turned out to be a trauma for some people. Daley Blind is one of them.

As is known, Eriksen suddenly collapsed in the match that took place at Parken Stadium, Saturday (12/6) evening. He is suspected of having a cardiac arrest and had to receive CPR assistance in the middle of the field.

Luckily Eriksen’s life was still able to be saved. His condition is now stable and undergoing further treatment at the hospital.

Even so, Blind was unable to just forget about the incident. The Ajax Amsterdam player immediately remembered two similar moments that happened to him.

Blind has collapsed on the field twice because of heart problems. The first incident occurred in 2019 when Ajax faced Valencia in the Champions League.

A year later, Blind continued to collapse when Ajax played a test match against Hertha Berlin. This incident had made the player predicted to retire early.

In the end, the worst case didn’t happen. Blind was still able to play until now and was brought by the Dutch national team to the 2020 European Cup.

Afraid to Play

Eriksen’s incident actually made Blind quite mentally disturbed. He admitted that he was afraid to play in the match between the Netherlands and Ukraine, Monday (14/6) am, WIB.

“I obviously thought about not playing because the pictures (of Eriksen’s incident) on television made it difficult for me to sleep. I really had to go through a huge hurdle to play,” Blind said after the match against Ukraine.

“When Eriksen encouraged his team-mates to come back to play, that’s when I decided to play. Apart from that the doctor who said my condition was safe.”

Blind in the end did play as a starter in the match. He appeared for 64 minutes before being replaced by Nathan Ake.

Blind was seen crying as he left the field. The 31 year old player certainly felt emotional after daring to fight his fear of playing.

“I had to overcome mental hurdles to play. I was proud to do it. Then the emotion finally came out,” he added.

Blind knows Eriksen quite well having been his team mate at Ajax. This fact made him even more depressed.
