Defeated by Royal Antwerp, Jose Mourinho mocks Tottenham Hotspur’s coating player
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Tottenham Hotspur had to be defeated 0-1 when they traveled to Royal Antwerp headquarters in the second match of Group J in the 2020-2021 Europa League season. The manager, Jose Mourinho, admitted that he was disappointed with the appearance of the coating players who were given the opportunity to play.
In the match that took place at Bosuilstadion, Friday (30/10) am, Tottenham did indeed keep a number of its stars on the bench. Mourinho gave the players who had minimal minutes to show off.
Names like Dele Alli, Steven Bergwijn, Vinicius, and Giovani Lo Celso have started their first time in the past month. This kind of policy is indeed common for a number of large teams when competing in the Europa League.
Unfortunately the opportunity was not maximized properly. Tottenham performed poorly throughout the first half and conceded one goal through Lior Refaelov’s action.
Those Conditions had made Mourinho furious. He immediately pulled the top four players over at halftime in order to give a place for his main stars Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Erik Lamela, Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min.
But Tottenham’s efforts to rise and catch up failed to materialize. The 0-1 score lasted until the game was over.
Mourinho did not hesitate to mention his performance in the first half as the cause of Tottenham’s defeat. He also insinuated the role of the coating players in his team.
“It’s fair to say that a player with a poor performance affects the team, but also the team affects individual performance. So it is not my right to blame individuals and bring names to the table,” Mourinho said after the match.
“You always ask me why this player didn’t play, why was that player not selected. Maybe now, you don’t ask that anymore because you already have the answer.”
“When you are a player with the ambition to be first choice, and to play in the most important games, you have to show it,” he added.
Mourinho is known as a manager who is quite firm with players. Not surprisingly, throughout his career, the Portuguese coach had clashed with a number of stars.
The defeat against Antwerp will certainly make Tottenham’s internal conditions heat up. This can affect the performance of The Lilywhites as a whole if it is not fixed immediately.
