Defeated by West Ham United, Frank Lampard is afraid of getting overtaken by Manchester United
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Chelsea was defeated by West Ham United with a score of 2-3 in the continued 2019-2020 Premiere League, Thursday (2/7) AM. The defeat has made the Blues position in the top four threatened by two competitors, namely Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Currently, the distance between Chelsea and the two competitors is only two points apart. With six matches left, anything can happen.
Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard is upset about this situation. He criticized the mentality of his players which made them slip into crucial games.
In the match, Chelsea should be able to bring home one point. But Tammy Abraham and his colleagues actually conceded in the final minutes through a counter-attack scheme that changed the score to 3-2 for the host.
“There is no doubt there are group of good players here. But when analyzing consistency, you feel like a game like this will come and show you there is work to be done,” Lampard said.
“If we open ourselves up to try and score the winning goal, then we must be prepared to run back in another direction and defend better.”
It is understandable for Lampard to be upset. If able to defeat West Ham, Chelsea will shift Leicester City from third position which certainly makes their steps safer to obtain Champions League tickets.
Lampard has began to worry about the chances of Chelsea finishing in the last four. He considered Manchester United as the main competitor to appear more consistent.
“We are two points ahead of Manchester United, who have played fantastic and are in good form. Wolves had a great season and they are behind us, while Leicester has had a great season and we are just behind them,” he added.
It will be a loss for Chelsea if they have to be absent from the Champions League next season. Moreover, Lampard has strengthened his squad by bringing in Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.
