DBasia.news – Sky Sports Italia reports AS Roma has reached a personal agreement with Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren. The player is getting closer to head the Stadio Olimpico.
The summer transfer market in the UK has indeed come to a close. English clubs can no longer recruit new players, however, they can still sell or loan players to other teams as the transfer market is still open in Europe.
Lovren, who was unable to compete with Joe Gomez and Joel Matip at Liverpool, was reportedly a Roma transfer priority who were looking for a new center back after Kostas Manolas left for Napoli.
Although Giallorossi has recruited Gianluca Mancini from Atalanta, Paulo Fonseca’s Roma still need an experienced central defender, besides Federico Fazio, to navigate the long journey of the 2019-20 season. Roma also took advantage of Lovren’s situation in Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool manager, already believes Matip as a tandem for Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the defense with his coating, Gomez (who can also play as a left and right back). As a result, Lovren did not have many opportunities to play.
In addition, Lovren is in his thirties and has been playing for Liverpool since 2014. An interest from Rome could be that Lovren will find his best performance back in his new league, Serie A.
Reportedly, Lovren will be borrowed for one season by Rome with an option to purchase of up to 25 million euros at the end of the contract. Roma will not hesitate to make up for the purchase clause if the Dinamo Zagreb academy product appears well and plays a lot.
