Dele Alli insists his performance did not decline because of Jose Mourinho

DBasia.news – Dele Alli revealed that working with Jose Mourinho was an unforgettable experience. Alli emphasized that his declining appearance was not due to The Special One.

The 2020-21 season did not go as planned for Dele Alli. The midfielder who had become Gareth Southgate’s first choice at the 2018 World Cup was not even discussed as a potential name for the Three Lions at Euro 2020.

In the 32 Premier League games Tottenham have played under Jose Mourinho, Alli has only been on the pitch for 233 minutes. In comparison, he played 385 minutes in the six league games managed by interim coach Ryan Mason, after Mourinho was dismissed.

“The only person to blame is myself. I should be performing at a level where it’s difficult not to put me in the team or not to play me. I don’t blame anyone but myself,” Alli said as quoted from Goal.

“Working with Mourinho was a great experience and I learned a lot from him,” he added.

The arrival of Nuno Espirito Santo who will take charge of the Spurs next season, makes Alli want to show and prove that he can return to a better level.

“Nuno has done a great job at Wolves. I can’t wait to talk and work with him. He’s a great manager and it’s been an exciting time.”

“I want to make this year one of the best I’ve had. A lot of people said I needed to find the best form a few years ago. I want to get past that and reach my full potential to be the best player I can be,” explained Dele Alli.
