Depay Defends Koeman on the Issue of the Barcelona President’s Dismissal

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Rumors of Ronald Koeman’s dismissal from the Barcelona coach are still circulating. This finally reached the ears of the new Blaugrana player, Memphis Depay.

Barcelona president, Joan Laporta still has not given any guarantees to continue using Koeman’s services next season. He seemed dissatisfied with the performance of the Dutch national coach despite successfully presenting the Copa del Rey trophy.

A number of big-name coaches have been linked with Barcelona. This prompted Koeman’s agent to ask Laporta for direct confirmation regarding the clarity of his client’s future.

Laporta seems to be still considering the positive and negative impacts of sacking Koeman. Moreover, Barcelona’s funds are very limited to signing a new coach.

In addition, Koeman’s future could also affect the fate of some of Barcelona’s targeted players. One of them is Depay.

Barcelona have been linked with Depay since the summer of last year. The move of the former Manchester United player is now getting closer to reality because his contract will soon end with Olympique Lyon.

But Depay could change his mind if Barcelona sack Koeman. Both of them have a close relationship because they have worked together for the Dutch national team.

Depay also gave a veiled message regarding this polemic. Implicitly, he seemed to threaten Barcelona to keep Koeman.

“I want Koeman to stay there (Barcelona), wherever I go. Wherever he goes, I want him to continue at Barcelona,” Depay said.

This is certainly a dilemma in itself for Laporta and Barcelona. The final decision must be taken immediately so that preparations for the 2021-2022 season are more mature.
