DBasia.news – Derby County is eyeing senior Chelsea defender, Gary Cahill. Derby manager, Frank Lampard, wants to reunite with his former teammate if Derby can win promotion tickets to the Premier League against Aston Villa in the play-off phase on Monday (27/5) 21.00 WIB.
According to news reported by the Mirror, Lampard intends to recruit the 33-year-old defender whose contract expires at the end of this season with Chelsea. Lampard has played with him for two years with the Blues (2012-2014).
Cahill could be recruited for free by Derby as his contract was not extended by Chelsea. Even so, the England defender must also be willing to accept big salary cuts if he joins Derby – if promoted to the Premier League.
Cahill, who has been strengthening Chelsea for seven years, was able to win two Premier League titles, two FA Cups, one League Cup, Champions League and Europa League.
This season, Cahill was disappointed with Maurizio Sarri as he was only played eight times. Not having many options, the former Bolton Wanderers player chose to leave with a free agent status. Cahill believes he can still play for another three-four years.
