Despite Wanting to Move, Bernardo Silva Statistics Show Interesting Facts at Man City
By db-admin
DBasia.news – In the summer of 2021 the transfer drama involving Manchester City is not just about Cristiano Ronaldo, or signing Jack Grealish for a fee of £100 million.
Last summer City signed Jack Grealish, Kayky and Scott Carson for a total of 127 million euros. But City also sold players to balance it like Angelino, Jack Harrison, Lukas Nmecha.
One name that had enlivened it was Bernardo Silva. Having been linked with Barcelona, the 27-year-old wanted to leave the club he had signed for from 2017 and Pep Guardiola confirmed it.
“He’s our player. Not just Bernardo, there are two or three players who want to leave but they are our players and when they bring some offers and they want to leave we are open to discussions but it depends on them,” Guardiola said last August.
“Otherwise they will continue training very well, they will stay here and I will decide if they stay or not to bring in other players.”
The Portuguese attacking midfielder did not leave the Etihad Stadium in the end. In fact, for a player who wants to leave, Silva’s statistics show a different fact.
The former Monaco player has always been played by Guardiola so far with 14 appearances across all competitions: nine in the Premier League, four in the Champions League and one in the Community Shield. Silva has scored two goals and provided one assist.
Silva again showed the performance that helped City win the 2018-2019 Premier League title. His best performance is seen by his advantages of playing dribbling when penetrating the ball.
The ability to dribble and control the ball when penetrating, from the defensive phase to the attacking transition, is Silva’s strength. The statistic to describe him is ‘progressive ball carrier’.
What does that term mean? A progressive ball carrier is a player who dribbles at least five meters in the opponent’s defence. According to Opta, Silva is the best at it in the Premier League with 110 progressives.
Under Silva are West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice (106 progressives), Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic (80 times), Silva’s partner Rodri (73 times), and most recently Southampton’s Oriol Romeu (71 times).
These statistics show the professional side of Bernardo Silva that is worth emulating. Although he had stated that he wanted to leave and the transfer failed to happen, Silva still showed his best performance with City.
