Diego Simeone Gives Comparison between Two Atletico Madrid Champion Teams
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Diego Simeone successfully presented the second LaLiga trophy for Atletico Madrid. Of course it is interesting to see the Argentinian coach compare the two successes.
Simeone has handled Atletico since 2011. He now officially holds the status of the most successful Los Rojiblancos coach with a score of eight trophies.
Two of the eight trophies are LaLiga titles. This success is a rarity in the midst of the dominance of Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Simeone first helped Atletico win LaLiga in the 2013-2014 season. At that time they confirmed their success in the last match at home to Barcelona.
Seven years later, Atletico for the second time succeeded in overthrowing the dominance of Barcelona and Madrid. Uniquely, this second title was also determined in the last week.
On paper, the 2013-2014 Atletico squad should be stronger than this season. This is because the team was also able to advance to the Champions League final before being conquered by their city rivals.
Practically only Koke left from the 2013-2014 Atletico squad. One other player, Saul Niguez, was currently serving a loan spell at Rayo Vallecano’s club.
While Atletico 2020-2021 failed to speak much in the Champions League. Luis Suarez and his friends were eliminated in the last 16.
However, Simeone had a different view. He considered the LaLiga trophy this season to be more special because it was won during the pandemic.
“This has been a very complex year, and so many people have died from the virus. So for Atletico to become champions it feels different,” said Simeone.
“This is one of the best years to become champions. The world is going through a very bad situation and I hope we have given a lot of joy.”
Atletico have indeed appeared more convincing throughout this season. They immediately stepped on the gas and topped the standings since the start of the competition.
Even though the preparations for Atletico and other teams were fairly short on the effects of the corona virus pandemic. Playing in a closed stadium also complicates the situation.
But in the end, Simeone was able to maximize Atletico’s quality. This further confirms his quality as one of the top coaches in Europe.
The future of Simeone
This success certainly makes Simeone a hunt for big clubs. But there are no signs of him leaving Atletico.
“I have no doubt people can get tired, but I am very stubborn. I know that this club can continue to grow and I hope it will continue like this,” he added.
“The club is growing. Miguel (Angel Gil Marin), Enrique (Cerezo) and all those invisible have provided the club with stability beyond results.”
