DBasia.news – Unfortunate news came to the Dutch National Team ahead of their inaugural European Cup 2020. Der Oranje had to lose Donny van de Beek in the tournament.
Van de Beek was actually included in the list of 26 players in the Dutch final squad for the 2020 European Cup. The coach, Frank de Boer still needs his strength even though he is concerned more with warming up the Manchester United bench.
This tournament should be a proving ground for Van de Beek. His quality was questioned by many parties after failing to win the main place in the Manchester United squad.
However, the injury factor has made the 24 year old player have to be dropped. This problem added to Van de Beek’s suffering throughout the 2020-2021 season.
“Donny van de Beek had to miss Euro 2020 because the Manchester United midfielder was injured. As a result, the player who last played a few minutes in March against Gibraltar is not available for this tournament,” the Dutch Football Federation, KNVB said in a statement.
Van de Beek has recorded 19 times for the Netherlands in various competitions. He successfully contributed three goals and one assist.
Not looking for a replacement
Interestingly, the Dutch national team will not call a new name to replace Van de Beek’s position. Even though UEFA regulations allow it.
De Boer seems quite confident with the player material that currently exists. The Netherlands did show an impressive performance in the two warm-up matches ahead of the 2020 European Cup.
The Netherlands will face Ukraine in the opening match of Group C. The duel between the two teams is scheduled to take place at the Amsterdam Arena, Monday (14/6) at 02.00 WIB.
