Donny van de Beek’s New Role at Manchester United
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed a new role for Donny van de Beek. The Dutch midfielder will serve as a supersub.
Van de Beek has struggled to secure a first place in Manchester United’s squad since arriving last summer. He has only played 21 times in all competitions, although he mostly plays as a substitute.
Van de Beek is unable to compete with other world-class midfielders owned by Manchester United. Solskjaer prefered to play Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Fred and Scott McTominay in midfield.
Even though Van de Beek was signed at a fairly high price of around 40 million euros. He is also one of the mainstay midfielders for the Dutch national team.
But that doesn’t mean Van de Beek isn’t included in Solskjaer’s plans. He even saw the similarity in character between himself and the 23 year old player.
“He reminds me a lot of myself, when I first joined the team. “He understands my difficulties and challenges,” Solskjaer said on the club’s official website.
“I am the same as Sir Alex (Ferguson), when he left me, I understood and I am happy the team won.
Donny is that type of guy because he knows he is important to us and knows he will play a lot of games.”
Solskjaer has a reputation as one of the best supersubs to have played for Manchester United. Even though he mostly appeared as a substitute, he was often the winner.
Van de Beek seems to be trying to play that role. The match against Liverpool in the 2020-2021 FA Cup fourth round could be the beginning of this plan.
“He will definitely be involved in this game against Liverpool and he may be a deciding factor in that match,” he concluded.
