Draw Counter Southampton, Arsenal Repeat the Dark Note in 1998

By db-admin

DBasia.news –  Arsenal has not found a way to win again. The Gunners drew 2-2 against Southampton in a Premier League match at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal’s two goals were scored by Alexandre Lacazette (18 ‘and 90 + 6′), while the Saints’ two goals were scored by Danny Ings (8′) and James Ward-Prowse (71′). Arsenal is still in seventh place with 18 points.

With that result, Arsenal’s direction Unai Emery is currently without a win in the last six matches in all competitions – five draws and one defeat. That number, according to Opta records, has been the worst winless period since 1998 or 20 years ago.

Arsenal’s last win came last October when they won 3-2 over Vitoria Guimaraes in the Europa League – Nicolas Pepe scored twice from a free-kick.

In 1998, Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal won the Premier League without a win in six matches with details of the defeat of Wimbledon, Aston Villa, and was eliminated by RC Lens in the Champions League and Chelsea in the League Cup.

No doubt Unai Emery’s position as Arsenal manager is increasingly in the balance. Many predict the fate of Emery as his new colleague was fired by Tottenham Hotspur, Mauricio Pochettino. But the manager believes the club still supports him.

“They (Arsenal officials) support me every day. I know we can perform better and I will try to do it,” Emery said after the match, quoted from Goal.

“I understand supporters are angry and frustrated. The players feel the same and it is my job to improve performance and the key to being with supporters. Our target is to win, but also to play well and we don’t do it.”

Arsenal legend, Tony Adams, assesses the club did not develop under the care of Unai Emery. He indicated a change in Arsenal managerial.

“I don’t want any coach to lose his job, but the club is not advancing, is not developing. Recruitment is also really bad. We got rid of (Laurent) Koscielny – our best player – he had to go last season and also (Aaron) Ramsey. The team obviously weakened because of that,” Adams added.

The next two games could be determining the fate of Unai Emery at Arsenal. Arsenal will fight Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League (29/11) and Norwich City (01/12).
