England failed to win, Jose Mourinho criticized Luke Shaw

By db-admin

DBasia.news – The feud between Jose Mourinho and Luke Shaw continues. England’s failure to win Euro 2020 became a tool for the AS Roma coach to attack his former team.

England must recognize Italy’s superiority through a penalty shootout in a match that took place at Wembley Stadium, Monday (12/7). Both teams had a 1-1 draw until the second half of extra time ended.

Shaw had revived England’s hopes with his early goal. But Italy then equalized through Leonardo Bonucci’s kick in the second half.

Luck favored Italy in the penalty shootout. Roberto Mancini’s team won this round with a score of 3-2.

Two of Italy’s executioners, namely Andrea Belotti and Jorginho, failed to carry out their duties properly. But England were still worse off because their last three executioners in a row were unable to score against Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The three English players in question are Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Bukayo Saka. Donnarumma read the last two shots well while the first hit the post.

Mourinho specifically highlighted the appointment of Saka as the fifth executor or determination. He considered the responsibility to be too risky to be given to a 19 year old player.

This is what makes Mourinho criticize Shaw and a number of senior English players. They thought they were cowards.

“I don’t know in this case (Saka’s penalty), but I think it doesn’t matter if you are a great penalty taker or not. In this situation, where is (Raheem) Sterling? Where is (John) Stones and where is Luke Shaw?” Mourinho told Talksport.

“I don’t know whether to ask Gareth (Southgate) this question or not. Often what happens is players who should be there, they run away from responsibility.”

“Gareth is an honest man and a protective coach so I don’t believe he would say player A or player B ran away or tell me they weren’t ready to (take a penalty),” he added.

Mourinho is not the first to question Southgate’s choice of executioner. However, he chose to blame himself for this failure.

Mourinho’s latest comments will certainly make Shaw upset. The two have indeed been involved in reciprocating arguments throughout the 2020 European Cup.

Mourinho had questioned Shaw’s quality in picking up set pieces. The 26 year old player then responded with two assists in the match against Ukraine in the quarter-finals.

The relationship between the two figures has actually deteriorated since they were both still defending Manchester United. Mourinho had time to directly criticize Shaw’s quality.

But Shaw managed to rise under the tutelage of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer by performing brilliantly throughout the 2020-2021 season. It was the perfect response to Mourinho’s criticism.
