Erik Ten Hag advised to take care of Erling Haaland

DBasia.news – Liverpool defender legend who is now an English football analyst, Jamie Carragher, suggested Erik ten Hag to forcefully stop Erling Haaland’s movement. According to him, it’s taboo for Ten Hag to put Lisandro Martinez to guard Haaland.
Manchester United will visit Manchester City’s headquarters in the eighth week of the Premier League 2022-2023, at the Etihad Stadium, Sunday (2/10). One of the players that Man United must watch out for is Erling Haaland.
Haaland has so far packed 14 goals in just 9 matches. Of course, Haaland is a big threat to the Red Devils defense.
Jamie Carragher saw that in order to reduce Haaland’s sharpness, Erik ten Hag needed to be wise in choosing players. For him, Lisandro Martinez is unsuitable to be placed next to Haaland.
“The best advice I can give Erik ten Hag to repress Erling Haaland is not to get close to Lisandro Martinez,” Carragher said as quoted by the Telegraph.
“Some duels can be won with physical contact. However, some can be won with the brain. Martinez has to be really smart if he wants to stop Haaland in this fight.”
Moreover, Haaland’s posture is still superior to Martinez. In addition, Martinez is considered to have the potential to be caught in Haaland’s trap.
“Some of the best defenders in the world have short statures like Franco Baresi from Italy, Daniel Passarella from Argentina and Bobby Moore from England. However, they are perfect in terms of playing as they have other things to overcome their posture. It’s too early to judge whether Martinez is perfect on the pitch or other aspects of the game.”
“In the first match, Martinez appeared eager to chase and tackle the opponent. That could backfire in the end,” explained Carragher.
“Haaland will wait for Martinez to make a tackle and then use that to throw himself down. He knows that one mistake can be fatal for the Red Devils.”
So far, Manchester United have undergone 17 defeats against Manchester City in the Premier League. That is Man United’s second-highest number of defeats against a single club behind Liverpool and Chelsea, who both lost 18.
