Erik ten Hag still trusts Antony

The criticism towards Antony was given after the minor results achieved by Manchester United in the last two matches. He was considered not to have made a major contribution even though he was brought in at a price of around €100 million.

Rio Ferdinand became one of those who criticized Antony. The Manchester United legend thinks the player often does ineffective tricks.

“Antony didn’t go past anyone and I sat there thinking, s it always like that? I saw footage of him at Ajax and he is someone who used to beat other players,” said Rio Ferdinand.

“So, yes, he’s a winger who has a lot of tricks and you want to see him get past the opposition.”

Antony is a footballer with above average individual skills. However, this has not been utilized optimally and effectively.

Not infrequently the individual actions taken by Antony actually damaged Manchester United’s attack scheme. This was acknowledged by the Ten Hag.

“When Antony plays, the team wins. It already sends a message about how well he is doing,” Ten Hag told the club’s official website.

“But he can do better, I see room for improvement. I think you also know we want him to be more direct and more involved.”

Ten Hag certainly understands Antony’s qualities. The two have worked together at Ajax Amsterdam since 2020.

Ten Hag will not just ask the club to sign Antony at a high price. He still believes in the quality of the 22-year-old player.

“The team performs better when he is on the pitch. That’s good, it’s a great base to build on and I think he’s made improvements.”
