Erik ten Hag’s Challenge to Coach Manchester United
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Erik ten Hag is sure to start a new era with Manchester United. The 52-year-old coach previously successfully coached Ajax Amsterdam and won the Eredivisie title. However, a tough task awaits to boost the performance of the red devils.
He is contracted until 2025 with an option to extend a year to revive United. It was both a challenge and an uphill task for Ten Hag in his coaching career.
Never once had Ten Hag coached a top European club as big as Man United, having previously managed Bayern Munich II, Utrecht and Ajax. The pressure would be felt, but Ten Hag was challenged to do so.
To Voetball International, Ten Hag told the moment when he decided to leave Ajax and coach Manchester United. When did he make that decision?
“It was not too long ago. Actually only after talks with Man Utd, which only started at the last international break, at the end of March,” said Ten Hag.
“The conversation was so good that I felt: I want to take up the challenge. Then it started to live in my head and I made the decision that I would leave Ajax.”
With Man United’s great history and their current condition, Ten Hag also sees it as a big challenge he will face. He talked about his new club and the club’s current and future conditions.
“It feels like a tough but big challenge. It’s the most beautiful thing there is,” said Ten Hag.
“There is something to build on at United and something to achieve. Manchester United is a big name in the history of football. It feels like a challenge to get the club back on track.”
“Old Trafford is nicknamed the Theater of Dreams for a reason. It is a club with name, fame and appeal in international football.”
“Everyone knows the history of a beautiful team. From Sir Alex Ferguson of course, but also further back in time. Great team from the late fifties, who suddenly disappeared with a plane crash.”
“The history is impressive, but I also started to investigate the present and the future. And the options available. They were there, also financially. If you also get a good feeling about the people there, then the picture is right and then there are factors to take this step.”
