Even though Messi has left, Barcelona still has a salary problem
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Barcelona’s failure to extend Lionel Messi’s contract is inseparable from LaLiga regulations regarding salary limits. The problem has not yet been resolved.
LaLiga does apply salary cap rules to its member clubs. This is done to save the clubs from the threat of bankruptcy.
In practice, LaLiga sets a different salary limit for each club. This is in accordance with the financial strength and income of each camp.
Ahead of the 2021-2022 season, LaLiga has set a maximum wage limit for Barcelona of 393 million euros. This amount decreased significantly compared to last season which reached 671 million euros.
Barcelona also has an assignment to meet the limits set by LaLiga. If it fails, the Blaugrana are prohibited from registering new players.
This is of course a big problem. Moreover, Barcelona have brought in four new players namely Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia, Sergio Aguero, and Emerson Royal.
Messi’s departure lowers Barcelona’s salary burden significantly. The Argentine superstar is indeed the highest-paid player at Camp Nou.
But Messi’s departure does not automatically make Barcelona meet the salary limit set by LaLiga. Evidently, El Barca has not been able to register its new recruits to compete in the 2021-2022 season.
Reporting from Sport, only Emerson is registered in LaLiga. But that’s because half of the ownership of the player is already owned by Barcelona.
This has made Barcelona threatened to appear without Depay and Garcia in the LaLiga opener against Real Sociedad, Monday (16/8). While Aguero had to be absent due to injury.
Barcelona have until Friday (13/8) local time, to register their new players so that they can appear in the opening match. The club led by Joan Laporta is currently racking its brains to find additional income or reduce the salary burden.
One solution that can be done is to sell one of the stars. This method will make Barcelona reduce the salary burden and receive income.
The problem is, this method has been tried by Barcelona. But they have difficulty finding buyers with suitable prices.
