Everton 1-3 Man Utd: Edinson Cavani’s first goal to complete the Red Devils victory

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Manchester United won full points when they visited Everton’s headquarters in the continued 2020-2021 Premier League match which took place at Goodison Park Stadium, Liverpool, England, Saturday (7/11).

This time, the host played James Rodriguez and Jordan Pickford again. Meanwhile, Holgate and Bernard had their first Premier League match this season.

Solskjaer made four changes to his starting XI. David De Gea and Victor Lindelof started to replace Henderson and Tuanzebe, who appeared in the Champions League midweek. Meanwhile, Donny Van de Beek continued to be on the bench with Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba.

Manchester United, who needed a direct victory, took the initiative to attack since the game began. For the first five minutes, United didn’t even give the hosts the ball.

However, Everton was the one who managed to get the first chance when the game was running for seven minutes. Unfortunately Bernard’s cross failed to be exploited by Calvert-Lewin. The ball was still slightly curved.

Man United got the first chance in the 17th minute. But they failed to turn opportunities into goals. Only face to face, one on one, Martial failed to beat Pickford.

Two minutes later, the hosts took the lead through a goal by Bernard through a counter-attacking scheme. Bernard received a long ball from Pickford after first touching Lindelof. Under Wan-Bissaka’s control, Bernard was still able to release the kick that beat De Gea.

Everton’s lead did not last long. In the 25th minute, United equalized through a goal from Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese midfielder continued Luke Shaw’s cross with a header. 1-1 score.

In the 29th minute, Everton could have actually equalized if Digne’s shot from a tight angle did not hit the post.

About three minutes after Digne’s chance, the Red Devils took the lead. Again goals were born from Bruno Fernandes. Fernandes’ ball directed at Marcus Rashford slid smoothly into Everton’s goal. The score changed to 2-1 for United.

The visitors almost increased their lead on the 36th minute. But Martial, who escaped alone, failed to beat Pickford. The ball kick was too easily tamed by the Everton goalkeeper. Until the first half ended, the score 2-1 for Manchester United did not change.

At the start of the second half, the Red Devils seemed to have let Everton dominate possession more. As a result, several times Carlo Ancelotti’s troops were able to launch attacks which, fortunately, were still not dangerous.

In the 65th minute, Everton demanded a penalty after Maguire brought down Digne. But after seeing VAR, the referee decided there was no penalty as Calvert-Lewin was already offside before Maguire made a tackle.

When the game was 75 minutes in, United got a chance on the counter attack. Rashford who escaped alone failed to maximize opportunities. The ball shot straight towards Pickford.

Despite a lot of possession of the ball, Everton appeared to be struggling to penetrate the visitors’ defense and to create opportunities. In the 82nd minute United tried to change the rhythm of the game by including Edinson Cavani and Paul Pogba.

Manchester United sealed their victory after Cavani scored his first Premier League goal. On the counterattack, Cavani easily defeated Pickford after receiving a ball from Bruno Fernandes at the end of the second half.

The Red Devils closed the match with a 3-1 win at Goodison Park. Thanks to this victory, Manchester United has temporarily moved up to 13th in the standings with 10 points. While Everton are stuck in fifth with 13 points.
