DBasia.news – Roberto Martinez will remain coach of the Belgian national team, despite the team’s disappointing exit in the quarter-finals of Euro 2020
Martinez’s future was discussed because Belgium was eliminated by Italy 1-2 in the quarter-finals of the 2020 European Cup. In fact, this tournament could be said to be the end of Belgium’s golden generation.
Belgium was named in the golden generation from 2016. The Red Devils from that time until now have been reinforced by flashy names such as Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard, to Thibaut Courtois.
However, Belgium was only able to occupy the position of world ranking of FIFA rankings. At Euro 2016, Belgium were eliminated by Wales in the quarter-finals. This led to the dismissal of the coach at the time, Marc Wilmots.
At the 2018 World Cup, Belgium handled by Martines, was able to occupy the third best position. This is after winning against England, before being eliminated by world champions France in the semifinals.
“We are starting preparations for the matches in September and October. Roberto Martinez will be there,” the Belgian Football Association wrote as reported by Sky Sports.
“No official communication will follow, but no reason to change staff.”
“I have no inkling he will resign. There is no problem with him at the moment. There will be no real evaluation because, like any successful business, we have a culture of permanent evaluation,” he added.
Roberto Martinez was appointed Belgium coach in August 2016 and is under contract until 2022. Belgium will next face the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in September.
