Favorites to win the 2022 World Cup according to Lionel Messi
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Lionel Messi mentioned that there are three teams he thinks can win the 2022 World Cup. The 35-year-old player, who will go to his fifth World Cup with Argentina, includes Brazil, France and England as the favourites. He also commented on the atmosphere in the Argentine camp as they seek their first World Cup trophy since 1986.
Speaking to the South American Federation CONMEBOL, Messi said: “Whenever we talk about candidates, we always talk about the same team. If I have to put some teams above others, I think Brazil, France and England are a little above the others. But the World Cup is challenging and complicated that anything can happen.
“We [Argentina] are excited. We have a great group and are thrilled, but we are thinking of taking things one step at a time.”
Argentina are looking to do better than in 2014, the year they lost the World Cup final to Germany thanks to Mario Gotze’s extra-time goal.
Argentina are unbeaten in 35 matches in all competitions, last defeat was on July 3, 2019, in that year’s Copa America semi-final against Brazil. They are just three games away from beating Italy’s all-time record of 37 games without defeat.
The PSG star knows that this World Cup may be his last chance to win the trophy his cabinet has lost. The focus of Messi and Argentina will be on the opening game against Saudi Arabia on November 22.
