Ferdinand agrees Rooney will become Everton’s manager

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Wayne Rooney is one of the candidates to become the new Everton manager. He has the support of his former teammate, Rio Ferdinand.

Everton’s managerial position has been vacant after the resignation of Rafael Benitez. The Spaniard was dismissed after a 1-2 defeat to Norwich City last weekend.

Benitez failed to bring Everton to compete in the top flight. The Toffees are now even only 6 points from the relegation zone.

A number of big-name managers has been linked with Everton. Jose Mourinho and Roberto Martinez are among them.

Even so, Everton’s chances of signing both of them are quite challenging as they are still under contract. Mourinho has not had a season in charge of AS Roma, while Martinez is still focused on preparing Belgium to appear in the 2022 World Cup.

Rooney’s name then became an option. Although he still lacks experience, his background which has a close relationship with Everton is an added point.

Rooney is currently also under contract with Derby County. But Everton is believed able to hijack him to Goodison Park.

This rumor got Ferdinand’s response. He believes Rooney could get Everton back on track.

“I saw a different Wayne Rooney to the one I saw growing up together at Man United. He has confidence and I didn’t expect it because he is still a young coach,” Ferdinand said, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

Derby County is currently still slumped in the Championship relegation zone. However, this cannot be separated from the 21-point deduction due to financial problems.

The Rams are even now only 8 points adrift of the safety zone. If there were no points deductions, Derby would now be in eleventh place.

Although he doesn’t possess a neat achievement, Ferdinand is reluctant to underestimate Rooney’s quality in coaching. His is considered able to inspire young Everton players to perform better in every game.

“Wazza is good at detail. He brings people to his side to explain what he wants,” he added.

“I’m not saying he’s the next Sir Alex or Pep. But he’s on the right track.”
